Can you believe we are almost at the finish line of another year? As we gear up to step into a new year I decided to put together things to do before the year ends.
From self-care rituals to personal growth strategies, this list is going to be your guide for the last month of the year.
So grab your cozy blanket, fill up your hot chocolate mugs, take a look at this list below, and make these last days count.
Things To Do Before the Year Ends
Reflect on the Year
Take some time to reflect on the year that is ending. What were your achievements, challenges, and lessons learned? You can use a journal for the same.
Write down your feelings about everything, good or bad that you remember about this year. Use some year-end journal prompts.
Here are a few examples-
List five things or people you are grateful for this year.
- What are the three most significant achievements or milestones I reached this year?
- Reflect on the challenges you faced this year. What lessons did you learn from overcoming these challenges?
- How have your relationships evolved or changed in the past year?
- List the most memorable moments from this year.
- What quotes or words of wisdom resonated with you this year?
Feel free to customize these journal prompts according to your experiences.
Set Goals for the New Year
It is very important to keep a vision of the future. Outline your goals for the upcoming year by reflecting on your thoughts. What do you want to achieve personally and professionally?
These goals can be multipolar covering all aspects of your life, Physical Health, Mental Health, Personal Growth, Hobbies, Relationships, and so on. Use short-term and long-term timelines.
Once you set goals, you can make some New Year resolutions that resonate with your goals. I recently posted a blog post on New Year’s resolution Ideas. Check it out!
Read my blog post on Self Care Goal Ideas, this will help you to understand the types of goals better.
Declutter Your Space:
Let go of unnecessary things from this year. Decluttering can create a sense of order and help you start the new year with a fresh mindset.
Make a list of things that you need to declutter. Choose areas and sort items. Tidy up your living and working spaces.
Ask yourself questions like, “Have I used this in the past year?” or “Does this item hold sentimental value?” Use these criteria to decide what to keep.
If you feel overwhelmed during the process, take one small area at a time like a drawer, you can also take help from a friend or family member.
Once you have sorted items, you can donate, sell or discard them. You can add this practice to your monthly routine.
Express Gratitude
Expressing gratitude is an excellent way to look at the positives of your life. Reach out to friends, family, and colleagues to express gratitude
Let them know you appreciate their presence in your life. You can write personalized notes for friends and family. You can also call them or meet with them and have a heartfelt conversation.
Another way of doing this can be to host a lunch or dinner and celebrate the memories of this ending year.
And, most importantly, remember to appreciate and thank yourself too for making efforts, being strong, showing resilience, and for the positives and negatives!
Review Finances
Take a look at your financial situation. It is important to be aware of your financial well-being. Make the year-end the time to look back at what you did with the money this year.
Set a budget for the upcoming year based on your analysis and review your savings and investments.
Make this a habit to review your finances from time to time. This will contribute to financial stability and peace of mind.
Health Checkup
You might be completely healthy and by God’s grace did not fall sick this year, but it’s important to know what is going on with our bodies, internally. Schedule medical appointments and health checkups to see how your body is doing.
Your health is important, and it’s a good time to make sure everything is in order. If you have any health issues, make sure you make an appointment and get a health checkup before the year ends.
Connect with Loved Ones
If possible, spend quality time with family and friends. In today’s hustling life, we often forget to connect with the. This should be a must-have on your list of things to do before the year ends.
Make these year-end day plans for meeting your people. Create memories and strengthen your bonds.
Plan for Holidays
It depends on how you choose to spend your holidays. There are many factors that you need to take into consideration like your budget, your mood, and your family.
When you are done choosing, plan for your holidays, set a budget, and plan what days are you going to celebrate and how.
If you are planning to travel, book everything in advance. Or, if you are staying at home and celebrating with family, make a list of people you want to buy a gift for. If you are hosting meals, plan your menus in advance.
Decorate your room or house to set a festive and happy mode. This will ensure a smooth and joyous celebration at the end of the year.
Digital Detox
Consider taking a break from social media and screens. I often emphasize in my blog that spending time offline is very important.
Why not take a break from social media or the internet for a few days? Use this time to connect with the real world and focus on in-person interactions.
